ENVIRONMENTAL LIABILITY
WHAT IS COVERED?
Indemnify for Costs and Expenses reasonably incurred as a direct consequence of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods in or on any vehicle owned by the Insured or controlled by the Insured.
Cover includes Environmental Pollution & Clean up including Contamination and rehabilitation. Cover also includes Damage and Environmental Impairment as a result of a spill.
TRANSPORTATION
The conveyance of Dangerous Goods and/or other goods that may cause an Environmental Incident by a vehicle owned or under the control of the Insured from the place where they are accepted to their final destination and includes the handling, loading and unloading of Dangerous Goods and or any other goods onto or from the vehicle that is properly licensed to convey such goods, products or waste.
WHAT ARE DANGEROUS GOODS?
Substances, products or waste as specified in the standard specifications of South African Bureau of Standards SABS 0228 Codes and carried on or within a Vehicle that is properly licensed to carry such goods, products or waste. Driver to have a PDrP-D (D-dangerous goods).
ENVIRONMENTAL INCIDENT
Means the discharge, dispersal, release or escape of solid, liquid, gaseous, thermal irritant, pollutant or contaminant, smoke, vapours, soot, fumes, acids, alkalis, toxic chemicals, and waste materials in or on land, or any structure on land, the atmosphere or any watercourse or body of water, including groundwater, provided such conditions are not naturally present in the environment in the amounts or concentrations discovered, leading to serious danger to the public or potential serious pollution of or detriment to the environment.
